Several c-stores planned for the Pikes Peak region of Colorado.
Midwest convenience store chain Kum & Go, headquartered in West Des Moines, Iowa, is moving ahead with plans to enter the Pikes Peak region, the Colorado Springs Gazette reported.
On Tuesday, Dec. 27, Kum & Go purchased two sites from Nor’wood Development Group for a combined $2.3 million.
Months ago, Kum & Go had submitted plans to local government agencies, indicating it was considering several sites in Colorado Springs and Monument. And, earlier in December, Kum & Go paid $1.2 million for another Colorado Springs-based property. The chain has also submitted a proposal to Colorado Springs planners that show a proposed fourth store southwest of Powers Boulevard and North Carefree Circle, where a 12,000-square-foot strip center is envisioned. All of the stores proposed on planning documents would measure about 5,000 square feet. Kum & Go also has reportedly submitted plans for a store in Monument, Colo., north of Colorado Springs.
Despite an array of c-stores in Colorado Springs, Nor’wood Vice President Fred Veitch said Kum & Go told the Colorado Springs Gazette he expects the chain to be very competitive in the area. “They have a larger convenience store than what you typically find, with a greater variety of product,” he said. “Their gas pump design is a little bit more spacious, a little bit nicer, a little more upscale than some of the competitors’ offerings. I think the customers will like it.”
Kum & Go operates more than 430 stores in 11 states and already has nearly 40 stores in Colorado, but most are in smaller towns, mountain areas and Western Slope communities.
