Little Debbie Launches Million Smile Promotion

Little Debbie snacks has introduced a “smiling” giveaway, a coinciding eight-month national tour and a free photo uploading adventure where submitted photos are compiled in a mosaic that makes up Little Debbie’s iconic smiling face.

Little Debbie rolled out its Little Debbie Million Smile Mission Giveaway on Oct. 11 at littledebbie.com.

As part of the promotion, Little Debbie plans to give away hundreds of prizes, including seasonal treats, digital cameras and a 2011 Airstream Sport travel trailer. Customers can enter for a chance to win at littledebbie.com or at facebook.com/littledebbie between Oct. 11 and June 30, 2011. One grand prize winner will receive the official Million Smile Mission Tour Travel Trailer. This 2011 Airstream Sport 16-foot trailer is valued at more than $34,000. Monthly winners will receive digital cameras, printers, digital picture frames or gift cards. One instant winner every day will receive sampler cases of seasonal Little Debbie snacks.

The Little Debbie Million Smile Mission Tour hits the road Oct. 14 and will visit more than a dozen cities this fall, including New York, Philadelphia, and Burlington, Vermont. In the spring, the tour will continue on the West Coast. The Smile Squad will tour the country in the official Airstream Sport travel trailer, stopping along the way to take pictures, show off the Million Smile Mission Tour Travel Trailer and share tasty treats. Anyone can have his or her picture taken at the Smile Station photo booth at the tour stop and the image will upload instantly to littledebbie.com, to become part of the Little Debbie mosaic.

Finally, Little Debbie is asking a million people to share their own smiles by uploading pictures of themselves to the Little Debbie Web site or the Facebook site to become part of the national Little Debbie photo mosaic portrait (or let the Smile Squad do this if they’re at a tour stop). The mosaic becomes the iconic face of Little Debbie, with everyone’s tiny photos making up a giant montage picture of Little Debbie – smiling, of course.

The person who inspired the Little Debbie image often featured on product packages was a real little girl and the granddaughter of O.D. and Ruth McKee, the founders of McKee Foods, a family bakery. That little girl, now Debbie McKee-Fowler, is an executive with McKee Foods.

2010 marks the 50th Anniversary of McKee Foods’ Little Debbie brand. More than 150 billion Little Debbie snack cakes have been sold since 1960 in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and on U.S. military bases worldwide.
