Comment period on tobacco regulations extended to Aug. 8, 2014.
The Food & Drug Administration(FDA) , which has released a proposed deeming regulation that would affect cigars and other tobacco products, has agreed to extend its comment period by 30 days, to Aug. 8, the Cigar Association of America (CAA) reported.
In late April, FDA issued the proposed regulation, which would make cigars subject to the requirements of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Comments on the deeming regulation were initially due July 10, 2014. But the FDA will publish in the Federal Register on Monday, June 23, an announcement that the comment period has been extended.
As a voice for the entire cigar industry, CAA has met with FDA numerous times over nearly three years to educate officials about unique facets of the cigar market, including the differences between and among various types of cigars.
