Oxford, N.C. manufacturing facility to serve as new headquarters for the Granville County organization.
The Granville County Unit of the Boys & Girls Club of North Central North Carolina (B&GCNCNC) will soon have a new home, thanks to a generous gift by Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Co. (SFNTC).
SFNTC has donated its former manufacturing facility on West Street in downtown Oxford, N.C. to serve as the new headquarters for the Granville County Boys & Girls Club. The 59,000-square-foot, one-story, brick-and-metal building sits on 2.4 acres of land.
“The location and size of your building fulfill a major need for our Granville County location, and also offer more than enough extra room to add programs and services, in addition to having areas within which we can locate administrative offices,” said Paul Harris, corporate board chair of B&GCNCNC. “We are very grateful for this generous gift.”
B&GCNCNC was established in 2005 to provide safe places where young people can enjoy themselves and their friends in Franklin, Granville, Vance and Warren counties. Boys & Girls Club members have the opportunity to learn, grow, give back to the community, discover their needs, set goals and meet new friends. The Granville Unit of B&GCNCNC opened in September 2012 in Mary Potter Middle School and currently serves 60 children, ages 6 to 18.
“The generosity of Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company, with the donation of a building that we can use as the new home for our Granville County Unit, will allow us to reach more children more often,” said April Scott, B&GCNCNC’s operations manager and acting chief professional officer. “It’s because of supporters like SFNTC that the Granville Unit has had the success we’ve experienced in our first year of operation.”
SFNTC President Mike Little said his company was more than happy to help. “We opened our current manufacturing facility in Knotts Grove in 1999, and we’ve used the West Street facility for leaf storage in recent years. As the new home of the Granville Boys & Girls Club, the building and its grounds will help many children in our community live more fulfilling lives.”
