Jones was a past chairman of the Florida Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2006.
Randall “Randy” Akins Jones, 62, industry veteran and owner of TimeSaver Food Stores, passed away Aug. 10, 2013 at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville after a long fight with leukemia.
Born Nov. 30, 1950 in Ft Lauderdale, Fla., Jones grew up in Immokalee, Fla. and went to Gordon Military Academy in 1967. He was a graduate of Florida State University in 1972 where he was a proud member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
He originally entered the mortgage banking business with Commonwealth Service Corp., but in 1974 entered the gas and oil business as vice president of One Stop Oil Co., a retail operator of convenience stores in Jacksonville, Fla. He then went on to become president of Xcel Foods, a chain of convenience stores in Ft Walton Beach, Fla. and then President and Chief Operating Officer of Ray Distributing Co., a Jacksonville based gasoline and convenience store chain. From 1991 to 2002 Jones was president, CEO and owner of TS Marketing in Okeechobee and then Port St Lucie, Fla.
From 2003 to present Jones has owned and operated TimeSaver Food Stores, a local chain of Town Star convenience stores and Subway restaurants. He has been a resident of Port St Lucie for 20 years and was an avid pilot and outdoorsman, truly enjoying flying, boating, fishing, hunting and sport shooting.
Jones is the past chairman of the Okeechobee Economic Council, past chairman of the Florida Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association where he was inducted into the organization’s Hall of Fame in 2006. Jones served as chairman of the Board of Trustees, Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute for over 10 years and was a member of the Community Advisory Board for Seacoast National Bank.
Jones is survived by his loving wife of 28 years Brenda Jones, his brother and sister‐in law Edwin “Wynn” Jones Jr. and Melinda Jones of Port St Lucie, Fla., his nephews Edwin Jones of Stuart, Fla., Evan Jones of Port St Lucie, Fla. and nieces Helen Wynnette Jones of Los Angeles and Kara Mindy Edwards of Tampa, Fla. and his beloved kitty Snowball. He was preceded in death by his father Edwin Jones in 2000 and his mother Sara Jones in 2010.
