“The addition of Rutter’s represents Core-Mark’s continued commitment to delivering fresh and broad line products with a more efficient supply-chain, which resonates with the country’s best retailers,” says senior vice president marketing for Core-Mark.
Rutter’s Farm Stores has entered into three-year agreements with both Core-Mark, one of the largest supply-chain management companies in the convenience store industry, and US Foods, the nation’s second-largest foodservice distributor.
Rutter’s cites several benefits to the new relationships.
Rutter’s will rely on US Foods’ proven record of success as foodservice development specialists to improve upon their award-winning foodservice program. Rutter’s food service team will work with two chefs at US Foods to help stay ahead of industry trends and elevate the menu at Rutter’s to the level of a restaurant and not constrained by the convenience channel label. Other benefits include increased product selection, significant cost advantage, delivery scheduling flexibility and optimal delivery timing.
The new relationship with Core-Mark provides Rutter’s with access to the expansive portfolio from one of the nation’s largest convenience store suppliers. In addition to the cost benefit that will result from the change, Rutter’s pointed to Core-Mark’s ability to deliver more frequently and at optimal times, shorter fulfillment times and proven track record of superior category management, as integral to the decision to align the business with Core-Mark. The improved process behind the supply-chain will also serve as a driving force behind Rutter’s continued efforts to exceed customer service expectations and increase brand loyalty.
All of Rutter’s 58 Central Pennsylvania store locations will be supplied by Core-Mark’s Wilkes-Barre, Pa. wholesale distribution center, and by US Foods’ distribution center located in Allentown, Pa.
“Rutter’s is a pacesetter in the convenience store industry as well as a best-in-class retailer. The addition of Rutter’s represents Core-Mark’s continued commitment to delivering fresh and broad line products with a more efficient supply-chain, which resonates with the country’s best retailers,” said Christopher Hobson, senior vice president marketing for Core-Mark. “We are very pleased and excited to begin this relationship and to work with Rutter’s forward-thinking CEO, Scott Hartman and his dynamic team; they continue to redefine what a convenience store and food service retailer can offer to its customers.”
