7-Eleven And United Supermarkets Join Rolling Stone Boycott

“This was an easy business decision for us,” says CEO of United Supermarkets LLC.

7-Eleven and United Supermarkets LLC have announced they will not sell the controversial August issue of Rolling Stone magazine that features a photo of accused Boston bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on the cover, and an article on his life leading up to the Boston bombing inside the issue.

A representative for 7-Eleven Inc. said the chain “will not sell the Aug. 1 issue of the Rolling Stone magazine” inside any of its 1,700 company-operated stores.

The company told Hollywood Gossip Online it will urge its 5,900 franchised store owners to also pull the issue.

Texas-based United Supermarkets, which currently operates 57 stores under four distinct formats: United Supermarkets, Market Street, Amigos United and United Express, announced the decision to boycott the issue today.

“This was an easy business decision for us,” said Robert Taylor, CEO of United Supermarkets LLC. “To do anything that would glorify terrorist behavior simply goes against what our company stands for.”

Many other retailers nationwide have taken similar action in choosing not to sell the magazine.

Taylor added that Rolling Stone is only available at a limited number of United Supermarkets, Market Street, Amigos and United Express locations.

    Since when do retailers have the right to censor the news for their customers? If customers are not interested, or decide to boycott Rolling Stone for their article, then that is the correct process, not what is currently taking place! What has happened to us America?
