Some 45 new QuikTrip stores in 10 states are set to debut in 2012.
QuikTrip Corp. has made Fortune magazine’s list of the “100 Best Companies to Work For” for the 10th straight year.
The company ranked No. 66, down from No. 34 in 2011.
“It’s humbling, very humbling if you think about the amount of companies that operate in the U.S.—to make the list even once, but to make it 10 years in a row,” Mike Thornbrugh, a spokesman for QuikTrip told the Tulsa World. “To a degree, it validates that we’re doing the right things,” he added.
QuikTrip employs about 11,615 people, according to Fortune. In 2010, the company had revenue of $8.8 billion, up from $7.3 billion in 2009.
Fortune credits QuikTrip’s staff of veteran employees who bring the company’s “‘superfriendly,’ culture with them.”
QuikTrip also is among 19 companies on Fortune’s list that have never had a layoff. In addition, the company offers a fully paid sabbatical. The chain added 198 jobs in a one year period, totally a 3% job growth. In 2012, the chain has 45 stores under construction in 10 states, one of which is set to debut in Charlotte, N.C., in a few months, marking the company’s 11th state.
Currently, QuikTrip has 592 stores.
Fortune partnered with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct an extensive employee survey to compile the list. Two-thirds of a company’s score is based on the survey results of a random sample of its employees that asks questions related to their attitudes about management’s credibility, job satisfaction and camaraderie.
The other third of the scoring is based on responses to detailed questions about pay and benefit programs, hiring practices, internal communication, training, recognition programs and diversity efforts.
