Chevron co-sponsors remodel of basketball courts in partnership with the New Orleans Hornets.
This summer, Chevron partnered with the New Orleans Hornets NBA team to renovate two basketball courts at Rev. Peter S. Atkins Memorial Park in Covington, La.
With help from Chevron volunteers, the Hornets organization and members of the community who got to work painting benches and replacing shrubs, the courts got a much needed facelift.
Gone are the faded lanes, crumbling pavement and old hoops. Today the updated courts sport fresh asphalt in the Hornets team colors of blue, purple, gold and white.
The park sits just 10 minutes from Chevron’s Northpark offices, and the basketball courts are an important recreational spot for the local community. The remodeled courts were unveiled at a July 18 ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“Not only did Chevron co-sponsor the refurbishment, but thanks to volunteers from our employee networks and interns, we were also able to spruce up the park by painting benches and replacing shrubs,” said Karen Rawls, Chevron public affairs field representative.
The Hornets have been upgrading public basketball courts throughout the state, but this project with Chevron was the team’s first so close to home. “I want to thank our partner Chevron,” said Hornets president Hugh Weber. “We do these courts all over the state, but this is the first one right here in our own backyard, right here on the Northshore.”
