Quick Chek Mourns Loss of Colleague, Friend

Quick Chek, which operates more than 120 fresh food store locations throughout New Jersey and southern New York, mourns the passing of long time friend and corporate family member Anthony Napodano.

Napodano, who served as the company’s vice president legal and general counsel until his retirement in 2007, was 72.

Napodano began his legal career in 1962 with the Insurance Company of North America before moving to the law offices of Shea & Gold located in New York City.  He soon took on the position of assistant general counsel for Supermarkets General Corp.  Later in his career Napodano became a senior partner in the law firm of Napodano and Raffo, P.C., where he worked until transitioning from private practice in 1999.  It was during this time that he began his affiliation with Quick Chek where he served as general counsel and secretary before his promotion to vice president legal and general counsel.

“For the past two and a half years, Tony was an esteemed corporate secretary, consultant and member of the Quick Chek Board of Directors where he provided remarkable insights enabling us to become the convenience store leader in the New York metro market,” said Dean Durling, president and CEO, Quick Chek.  “His contributions to our company were numerous and his thoughtfulness and great sense of humor made him a valued mentor to many, and friend to all.  He will be greatly missed.”

In addition to his rigorous work schedule with Quick Chek, Napodano held numerous executive level positions in New Jersey state organizations, most notably chairman of the Board of Directors, Legislative Affairs Committee and Legislative Review Committee with the New Jersey Food Council.  He was a member of the American Bar Association, as well as the New York and New Jersey bars.

“Whether at work or enjoying his favorite pastime of golf, Tony rarely turned down a challenge.  Every new day brought Tony exciting new chances to excel which he met with great enthusiasm and success,” said Quick Chek Vice President of Sales and Merchandising John Schaninger.

Napodano was a devoted family man and is survived by his wife Jean, three children and six grandchildren.
