Sheetz and its customers are donating more than $56,000 to help victims of the Jan.12 earthquake in Haiti.
During the month of February, customers gave $28,359.37 to the relief effort. Sheetz is matching that total, bringing the final figure to $56,718.74. All proceeds are going to the Red Cross.
The donations were collected in special boxes displayed at all 368 Sheetz stores in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina. The Sheetz collection boxes are normally dedicated to Special Olympics, but have also been used to help victims of major catastrophes such as Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the Pacific tsunami of 2004.
“Our customers are the best in the world. They are always more than willing to help others in need,” said Stan Sheetz, president and CEO. “We are happy to match their generosity and play a part in helping the people of Haiti recover from this disaster.”
