A new chef hired to lead Allen & Delancey, a restaurant in New York’s Lower East Side, heaped praises on the Wawa hoagie during an interview with a popular New York blog this week.
The blog, Gothamist, is a site in the Gothamist LLC network of blogs, was founded in early 2003.
The bloggers interviewed Kyle Bailey, 28, who was recently hired as head chef at the restaurant Allen & Delancey. Bailey fielded a litany of questions on the various new dishes at the restaurant – seared duck breast, scallops and the like – but the interview took a turn to convenience-style foodservice.
The bloggers asked, “What do you usually eat when you’re just grabbing something basic?”
Bailey’s reply: “Probably hoagies. I’m actually a huge fan of the Wawa hoagie. It’s this huge chain of convenience stores based out of Pennsylvania. If you talk to anybody from Pennsylvania they’ll tell you how great Wawa is. They don’t have any up here, so I found one about forty minutes away, and I drive there just to get a hoagie. They’re that good!”
