CITGO Sponsors Cultural Events

CITGO Petroleum Corporation said it was the sponsor of a series of cultural events that took place over the weekend in different parts of the U.S. that highlighted the Venezuelan and Hispanic cultures.

The events included concerts by the internationally acclaimed Venezuelan folk music group, Serenata Guayanesa, in New York City and Tampa, Fla., performances by the professional dance group Venezuela Viva in Houston and New Brunswick, N.J. and the 44th Hispanic Day parade in New York City, where CITGO participated with a float showcasing the company’s wide-ranging corporate social responsibility programs.

CITGO’s said these efforts demonstrate its commitment to the community while allowing the corporation to contribute to achieving stronger cultural bonds among the people living in the U.S.

The Serenata Guayanesa weekend concerts were part of the group’s two-week U.S. tour, promoted by the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and sponsored by CITGO.

In New York City, an inter-generational audience filled every seat at the World Music Institute and was dancing in the aisles when Serenata Guayanesa performed the last song of the evening.

The crowd at the Venezuela Viva performance at Houston’s Hobby Center was treated to dance and music highlighting the native, African and European heritage of Venezuelan culture and traditions.

Elsewhere in New York City, about 1 million people attended the Hispanic Day Parade that CITGO sponsored.
