Delfield Introduces Eco-friendly Product Packaging

Foodservice equipment and refrigeration manufacturer The Delfield Company is greening up some of its product line.

The Mt. Pleasant, Mich.-based company said it’s introducing new eco-friendly packaging and foam in some of its product line, while also recognizing the need for equipment to have reduced energy consumption for a more positive impact on the environment.

That said, Delfield’s Specification Line and 6000XL Series Reach-Ins have been redesigned to substantially reduce energy consumption while increasing performance, the company said.

Delfield has upgraded packaging on all products to further reduce not only freight damage, but also its impact on the environment. The new packaging will be certified SFI and ISTA (International Safe Transit Association) to ensure products arrive safely and without unnecessary impact to the environment.

Delfield now uses an environmentally friendly foam insulation on all of its products. The company’s foam is fully Kyoto Protocol Compliant with zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential) and zero GWP (Global Warming Potential).

Delfield’s new reach-in refrigeration systems were designed to ensure 100% of its products meet EnergyStar TM Standards. Many of the company’s products use 30 to 40% less energy than what is mandated by EnergyStar, while nearly two-thirds of its products meet the standards to be CEE (Consortium for Energy Efficiency) Tier II compliant.

Delfield has also gone green in its operations, too. One-time use plastic water bottles have been eliminated, while all employees have received reusable "Reduce, Reuse & Recycle" green mugs. Water is available from reverse osmosis filtered water stations, and all paper tablewear is now recycled, not Styrofoam.

Every work area at the company has a large recycling bin so excess paper is recycled and reused, and the cleaning crew has switched to green cleaning products.

The lighting in the company’s two plants has also been changed to a more eco-friendly 128-watt light that reduces energy use by 12.5%.
