Wilson Farms Inc. has become the first local presenting sponsor for the Western New York & Finger Lakes Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Light the Night” walk fund raising campaign. Rochester’s Light the Night walk will be held at Monroe Community College on Sept. 28. Buffalo’s walk will be held at Delaware Park on Oct. 5. Registration for both events begins at 5 PM with the walk to follow at 7.
“Light the Night” is the society’s nationwide evening walk and fundraiser to celebrate and commemorate people whose lives have been touched by cancer. Participants carry illuminated balloons—white for cancer survivors and red for supporters–brightening the sky along a one to two mile walks taking place in Rochester and Buffalo.
To help raise funds and create awareness of the up-coming walks, Wilson Farms will sell “Light the Night” paper balloons for $1. Sales will also include blood cancer awareness wristbands ands and large balloons for a $5 donation. The balloon and awareness band sales will be available from now until Oct. 6 at all Wilson Farms, Sugar Creek and Wilson Farms Xpress locations.
In addition to the sales of the paper balloons, Wilson Farms will hold a special coffee day on Sept. 12 when a portion of the proceeds of coffee, cappuccino, hot chocolate and tea sold will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
September marks the annual observance of Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma Awareness Month, a time to commemorate the approximately 785,829 patients in the U.S. currently battling blood cancers. It is also the month that officially kicks off The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Light the Night” walk, an annual event held each fall in communities across the country to honor lives touched by cancer and to raise funds for blood cancer research and local patient aid and services.
