safeway makes the wright choice

New payment processing equipment adds convenience to paying for gas.

Safeway Inc., a convenience store and supermarket operator with 1,760 stores, reached a deal to begin accepting the Wright Express fleet card for fuel purchases.

Safeway, based in Pleasanton, Calif., operates a network of more than 290 fuel sites across the U.S., including Vons in Southern California, Randalls and Tom Thumb in Texas, Carrs in Alaska and Dominick’s in Illinois. Wright Express provides payment processing and information management services to the U.S. commercial and government fleet industries.

“We are excited to team with Wright Express to make the convenience of our fueling sites available to their fleets throughout our region,” said Joe Pettus, senior vice president, fuel and energy at Safeway.

“Wright Express is pleased to offer our customers the option of fueling at Safeway sites,” said Michael Dubyak, president and CEO of Wright Express. “Safeway is one of the largest and most popular fuel retailers in the Pacific Northwest and is a great addition to our network.”
